Description

The best-selling comprehensive guide to the fundamentals of sea kayaking, for day trippers and expedition paddlers alike.

Still regarded as “the bible” for both new and experienced kayakers after more than 30 years in print and 60,000 copies sold, Sea Kayaking covers the basics of equipment and technique as well as how to read the weather and the water, plan for long-distance expeditions, and survive in raging seas. Fully updated with hints about worthwhile digital technologies, tips for successful kayak angling, and inspiring recent stories of adventure, including “the queen of long distance paddling” Freya Hoffmeister’s ongoing expedition around South America, this classic guide continues to be required reading for those seeking adventure on the open ocean.

John Dowd has led many local and international kayak expeditions. He was publisher of the sport’s first magazine, Sea Kayaker, and is the former owner of a specialty kayak shop. He lives in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Freya Hoffmeister holds several records for distance kayaking and was the first woman (and second person) to complete a solo and unassisted circumnavigation of Australia. She is currently circumnavigating South America and, when she finishes in 2015, will be the first person to complete this circuit. She lives in Husum, Germany.
