Since its publication in September 2019, Julie Flett's Birdsong has received some incredible accolades, and most recently, it was named as an American Indian Youth Literature Honor Title! Such exciting—and well deserved—recognition for Julie!
See below for Julie's words of thanks to the American Indian Youth Literature Awards.
Congrats again, Julie!
"I was so deeply honored to learn that Birdsong had been included among the American Indian Library Association honor books for 2020. As an author and an illustrator, I’m thrilled that we have such strong and dedicated advocates for our work. AILA plays such an important role in supporting our community’s authors and illustrators.
It is such a privilege, and a responsibility I don’t take lightly, to share our stories in pictures books. Since Birdsong came out, I have been heart warmed to hear from so many readers, kids and adults alike, about how they’ve connected to the story and characters. It’s all such an extraordinary honor.
Congratulations to my peers, to everyone who dedicates themselves to book making and storytelling, who make sure we get our stories out into the world.
Kinanâskomitinâwâw, AILA!"
